A Staple Design Piece to Make Your Room Look Larger
My absolute favorite design element is a large mirror. Not only do large mirrors add character to your home they also can open up a space to make it feel larger. Having a full length mirror in your home is 100% a must have piece to elevate and enlarge your space.

Why Does a Large Mirror Make Your Room Look Larger?
A large mirror makes a room look larger because it creates the illusion of depth. This optical illusion occurs as the mirror reflects light and color across the room, tricking the eye into thinking that there is more space than there really is. Our eyes perceive the bouncing reflections as increased volume, making the room look bigger.
Where Should I Place My Large Mirror?
While using a large mirror to make a room look large is a useful interior decorating technique it doesn’t stop there. The placement of the mirror is almost just as important as the mirror itself. It is most effective to use a large mirror combined with as much indoor and outdoor lighting as possible to open up a small room. Doing this allows the illusion to occur both during the day and night. Placing a large mirror where it will reflect light from a window is an efficient way to utilize natural light during the day. At night, the mirror will reflect the artificial light that is within the room itself.
Tall mirrors can also make a room look larger by drawing the eye upward, instantly making the room feel more spacious. While I would start with a full length mirror if you are looking to add to your mirror collection there are many different types of fun mirrors that you can play around with to add to the design of your home such as mirrored furniture, mirrors in halls, a decorative bathroom mirror, or a pseudo window mirror.
Mirrors are such a versatile element in home decor. Apply this advice to recognize your rooms’ full potential. Happy creating!
